EyeControl - a voice for “locked-in” patients
EyeControl aims to improve the quality of life for locked-in ALS patients by providing a cheap, accessible, automatically calibrated, and mobile means of communication.
EyeControl offers a simple glasses frame with a connected infrared camera. The camera communicates with a credit card-sized computer that identifies and translates blinks and eye movements into commands that output sound to earphones and a speaker. The frames can also transmit these signals to a smartphone app via Bluetooth. The app enables the patient to communicate via text-to-speech.
